On 9 June 2021, the 2021 Shanghai-Hong Kong Cooperation and Development Forum was successfully held in Shanghai and Hong Kong, in a combination of physical and virtual methods. Jointly organized by the Better Hong Kong Foundation, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Shanghai Committee, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) and the Hong Kong Coalition, the theme of this year’s forum was “’14th Five-Year Plan’ Shanghai Development and Shanghai-Hong Kong Cooperation”. The forum focused on the national “14th Five-Year Plan” and the contents of Shanghai’s “14th Five-Year Plan”, aiming to convey to Hong Kong society, especially industrial, commercial, financial and professional sectors, the numerous opportunities arising. The forum was co-organised by One Country Two Systems Research Institute, HKCPPCC (Provincial) Members Association, Shanghai Hong Kong Association and Looop Media while supported by Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai of the HKSAR Government and Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
Vice Chairman of CPPCC and former Chief Executive of HKSAR Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Chairman of the Shanghai CPPCC Mr. Dong Yunhu, President of the SASS Dr. Wang Dezhong together with the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan officiated at the opening ceremony. At the forum, experts and scholars shared their insights on three main areas, namely “New Direction on Marco Policy of the National and Shanghai’s 14th Five-Year Plan and the Potential of Shanghai-Hong Kong Cooperation”, “Shanghai Regional New Platforms and Collaboration between Shanghai and Hong Kong” and “Shanghai-Hong Kong International Financial, Technology and Trade Center under 14th Five-Year Plan”. The forum has attracted more than 300 participants from Shanghai and Hong Kong, including officials from relevant government departments, experts and scholars, entrepreneurs, representatives of social organisations, and young people living in Shanghai from Hong Kong. The Foundation’s Council Member Mr. Dario Pong moderated one of the discussion sessions in Shanghai.

The Foundation has invited Mr. Yue Yi, Director of Bay Area Hong Kong Center and former Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong); Prof. James Wang, Research Director of Bay Area Hong Kong Center; Mr. Shang Hailong, Executive Director of HKAI Lab and Managing Director of SenseTime Hong Kong; and Prof. Ping K Ko, angel investor on chip enterprise and Emeritus Professor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as representatives from Hong Kong to speak at the forum.
