16th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest – Study Tour

From 20 – 29 July 2024, a study tour to Beijing and Gansu Province was organized for the winning teams of the 16th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest. In Beijing, students visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where they were able to observe the press conference hosted by Spokesperson Ms Mao Ning at the Blue Hall. Following the conference, students were excited to interact with Ms. Mao, gaining valuable insights from her experiences. Moreover, a sharing session was held where young diplomats discussed their work and challenges, providing students with a deeper understanding of diplomatic practices. Other highlights of the tour included visits to the Palace Museum, the Museum of the Chinese Communist Party, the China Nuclear Industry Science and Technology Museum, and Beijing High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Area. Students were amazed by exotic and beautiful nature landscapes such as Mingsha Mountain, Crescent Moon Spring and Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park. They also visited historical sites such as Mogao Caves, Jiayu Pass as well as China’s Workers and Peasants Red Army Western Route Memorial Hall. To understand the new technology development, the group visited Dunhuang Solar Park (Super Mirror Power Plant) and the China National Nuclear Corporation Gansu Science Popularization Education Base. 16th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest – Final and Prize Ceremony

Since 2007, the Foundation has jointly organized the Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest with the Office of Commissioner of the PRC’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR (Commissioner’s Office) and the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government. The contest aimed to raise students’ interest in international affairs and knowledge of the nation’s foreign policy. “Rising to the Call of Our Time and Our World” was the theme of the 16th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Competition. Nearly 70,000 students from 263 primary and secondary schools enrolled in this year’s contest which set the highest record since the launch of the contest.   The Final was successfully held on 18 May 2024   On 18 May 2024, ten shortlisted teams entered into the Final and competed under two groups, namely Elite Group and Pioneer Group, after the first-round competition in March. This year, the organizers were honored to have invited the Chief Executive Mr. John Lee as the Guest of Honor of the Final and to address us at the prize presentation ceremony. The Foundation’s Trustee Tan Sri Dato’ David Chiu, Council Members Ms. Winnie Chiu, Mr. Philip Ma, Mr. Samson Chan, Dr. Allen Shi, Ms. Clara Chan and Mr. Bosco Law, and Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang attended the Final.    The Chief Executive Mr. John Lee (3rd right) together with Commissioner Cui Jianchun (4th left) presented the Gold Award of the Elite Group to Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School   In the Final, students competed for their knowledge of foreign diplomatic affairs of the PRC, Hong Kong-related foreign affairs, national and international affairs, international relationships and diplomatic etiquette. After rounds of fierce competition, the championship in Elite Group and Pioneer Group went to Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School and Fukien Secondary School respectively. Around 600 audience members, comprising students and teachers from primary and secondary schools as well as invited guests, were amazed by the excellent performances of the finalists. 15th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest – First Round

The theme of the 15th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest was “New Journey for the Motherland, New Chapter for Hong Kong, New Opportunities for the World”. More than 60,000 students from 253 primary and secondary schools enrolled in this year’s contest which set the highest record since the launch of the contest. On 2 March 2023, representatives of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government and the Better Hong Kong Foundation visited Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Primary School and Diocesan Girls’ School respectively to witness the first round competition. 14th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest – Prize Ceremony

Since 2007, the Foundation has jointly organized the Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest with the Office of Commissioner of the PRC’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR (Commissioner’s Office) and the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government. The contest aims to raise students’ interest in international affairs and knowledge of the nation’s foreign policy. Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19, the contest has been suspended for the past two years. This year, the contest was relaunched. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, the theme of the 14th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest was “Celebrating 25th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Return and Starting a New Chapter in China’s Major-country Diplomacy”. Nearly 48,000 students from 233 primary and secondary schools enrolled in this year’s contest which set the highest record since the launch of the contest. The online competition for Secondary School Category and Primary School Category were successfully held on 7 – 25 March 2022. However, due to the unfavorable epidemic condition in May, the Final of the Secondary School Category was cancelled and winners of this category were determined by their results in the first round online competition. The prize presentation ceremony was successfully held on 29 July 2022 at the Commissioner’s Office On 29 July 2022, the prize presentation ceremony of the 14th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest was successfully held at the Commissioner’s Office. The organizers were honored to have invited the Chief Executive Mr. John Lee as the Guest of Honor and to address us in the occasion. Representatives of the organizers included Commissioner Liu Guangyuan, the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan and Secretary for Education Dr. Christine Choi officiated the event. The Foundation’s Council Members Dr. Roy Chung, Mr. Dario Pong and Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang also attended. In addition to the principals, teachers and students representatives of the winning teams, other guests including Deputy Head of the CPG Office on National Security Mr. Li Jiangzhou, first Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR Ms. Elsie Leung, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee Dr. Margaret Chan, Deputy Director of the Basic Law Committee Ms. Maria Tam, and representatives of sponsors and co-organizers also joined the event.
