2025 Beijing Delegation
In recent years, China’s distinctive major-country diplomacy has broken new ground, actively advancing the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, while consolidating and expanding global partnerships. Hong Kong must further deepen its international exchanges and cooperation, integrate into the nation’s development better, and equip itself for forthcoming challenges. Over the past 30 years, the Better Hong Kong Foundation (“the Foundation”) has built a promising international network through visits to countries such as the US, the UK, EU member states, and those in the Middle East. As a “super connector”, Hong Kong has been committed to fostering international exchange and cooperation, which aligns with the Foundation’s mission. The Foundation will continue striving to effectively share the stories of Hong Kong and China. In order to more accurately convey our stories abroad, the Foundation visited Beijing with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of our country’s development blueprint and exploring how Hong Kong can play a more active and constructive role in contributing to it.
From May 28 to 30, the Foundation organized its fourth delegation to Beijing. Led by the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman, Ronnie Chan, and comprising 16 members, the delegation engaged in in-depth exchanges with senior officials of the Central Government, as well as experts and scholars from various fields. Delegates shared the Foundation’s enduring mission since 1995, which includes proactively introducing the real situation of Hong Kong and mainland China to the international community, through various forms of people-to-people exchanges. From the business perspective, we also highlighted Hong Kong’s advantages and challenges, actively offering recommendations.
This year, the delegation was honored to be received by Xiang Bin, Member of the Office Leadership of Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of CPC Central Committee. At the meeting, the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Ronnie Chan reported the Foundation’s key initiatives while Trustee Peter Lee’s representative Andrew Fung, Corporate Sponsor Dario Pang, Council Members Bryant Lu, Zhong Xiaofeng, and Clara Chan shared updates on Hong Kong’s latest economic developments, providing an overview of its capital market landscape. We also shared our views on various topics, including commodities trading, green economy development, reducing regulatory costs in the construction sector, and fostering cooperation with Europe.

Moreover, the Foundation was invited to Peking University, where meeting with the university’s president and senior officials was held. During the visit, Executive Committee Chairman Ronnie Chan delivered a talked titled “The Wave of Deglobalization and the Restructuring of the International Order”, which was attended by approximately 100 faculty members and students. Through these engagements, delegates could have a better and deeper understanding on Hong Kong’s unique advantages and strategic objectives, domestic and global economic opportunities and prospects, data assets and China’s consumption-stimulating policies, the US-China trade war, Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the evolving China-US-Europe relations.
