2025 Beijing Delegation

In recent years, China’s distinctive major-country diplomacy has broken new ground, actively advancing the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, while consolidating and expanding global partnerships. Hong Kong must further deepen its international exchanges and cooperation, integrate into the nation’s development better, and equip itself for forthcoming challenges. Over the past 30 years, the Better Hong Kong Foundation (“the Foundation”) has built a promising international network through visits to countries such as the US, the UK, EU member states, and those in the Middle East. As a “super connector”, Hong Kong has been committed to fostering international exchange and cooperation, which aligns with the Foundation’s mission. The Foundation will continue striving to effectively share the stories of Hong Kong and China. In order to more accurately convey our stories abroad, the Foundation visited Beijing with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of our country’s development blueprint and exploring how Hong Kong can play a more active and constructive role in contributing to it.   From May 28 to 30, the Foundation organized its fourth delegation to Beijing. Led by the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman, Ronnie Chan, and comprising 16 members, the delegation engaged in in-depth exchanges with senior officials of the Central Government, as well as experts and scholars from various fields. Delegates shared the Foundation’s enduring mission since 1995, which includes proactively introducing the real situation of Hong Kong and mainland China to the international community, through various forms of people-to-people exchanges. From the business perspective, we also highlighted Hong Kong’s advantages and challenges, actively offering recommendations.   This year, the delegation was honored to be received by Xiang Bin, Member of the Office Leadership of Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of CPC Central Committee. At the meeting, the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Ronnie Chan reported the Foundation’s key initiatives while Trustee Peter Lee’s representative Andrew Fung, Corporate Sponsor Dario Pang, Council Members Bryant Lu, Zhong Xiaofeng, and Clara Chan shared updates on Hong Kong’s latest economic developments, providing an overview of its capital market landscape. We also shared our views on various topics, including commodities trading, green economy development, reducing regulatory costs in the construction sector, and fostering cooperation with Europe. Moreover, the Foundation was invited to Peking University, where meeting with the university’s president and senior officials was held. During the visit, Executive Committee Chairman Ronnie Chan delivered a talked titled “The Wave of Deglobalization and the Restructuring of the International Order”, which was attended by approximately 100 faculty members and students. Through these engagements, delegates could have a better and deeper understanding on Hong Kong’s unique advantages and strategic objectives, domestic and global economic opportunities and prospects, data assets and China’s consumption-stimulating policies, the US-China trade war, Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the evolving China-US-Europe relations. 2024 Beijing Delegation

The Foundation organized its third delegation to Beijing from 4 to 6 November 2024, enhancing information exchange and complementarity of advantages between mainland China and Hong Kong. Led by the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan, the Delegation met with senior Central Government officials and thought leaders, enjoyed in-depth discussions, and shared ideas on how Hong Kong could better serve the country’s needs with its own strengths. The delegates also shared the missions of the Foundation since 1995 as a NGO composed of business leaders which spares no effort to share the real situations of Hong Kong and mainland China with the international community and foster communications with various sectors through various people-to-people exchange programmes, identifying Hong Kong’s strengths and challenges from the perspective of the business sector as well as consolidating ideas and insights to provide practical and valuable suggestions. Besides overseas visits, the Foundation also invites and receives officials, think tanks and journalists from abroad, and shows them true pictures of Hong Kong and mainland​ China In partnership with the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Shanghai Committee and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the Foundation co-organizes the Shanghai-Hong Kong Collaboration Forum annually to facilitate in-depth discussions on strategic coordination and collaboration of the two places. To cultivate and strengthen our younger generation’s understanding of​ China’s development and diplomacy, the Foundation also joins hands with the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR and the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government, co-organizing the Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest for more than 16 years. Through the contest, Hong Kong youngsters could deepen their understanding to China and the world and, thus, be better equipped to take part in the future development of Hong Kong and our country. This year, the delegation was honoured to be received by Mr. Nong Rong, Deputy Director of Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of CPC Central Committee and Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of State Council. They shared views on current and forthcoming economic challenges and opportunities that Hong Kong is facing, introduced the overview of Hong Kong’s capital market, and highlighted their insights and experiences gained from various overseas visits to the US, Europe and the Middle East regions, as well as their efforts on attracting foreign investments. They also pointed out the paramount role that Hong Kong should and could play for its motherland, particularly in commodities such as metals, also in testing and certification. 2024 Delegation to France and Germany

FRANCE From 2 to 3 May 2024, the Foundation organized a high-level delegation visit to Paris, France. Led by the Foundation’s Trustee Mr. Adriel Chan, the delegation met with local business leaders, senior government officials, and think tanks to develop mutual understanding, pursue common interests and initiate potential collaborations. Acting as a non-official channel, the Foundation’s mission is to connect Hong Kong, mainland China and the global community. The delegation prioritized two key agenda: The global order has been evolving, with the Russian-Ukraine War, Israel-Hamas Conflict and tension between the US and China, the delegation wished to learn from top intellectuals and decision makers the Europe perspective on China-EU relations and China’s role in the international community. We also shared our views, from a business perspective, on how both sides could work together to foster a constructive and peaceful global order. The country is one of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases and at the same time is highly vulnerable to and affected by the negative consequences of climate change. China has therefore emerged as a significant player in global sustainability efforts, particularly in sectors like electric vehicles, batteries, and renewable energy. These efforts align with China’s domestic priorities for sustainable development and environmental protection while also contributing to global climate mitigation efforts and SDGs. As such, the country demonstrates its commitment to advancing renewable energy cooperation, and the country’s business sector has played a major part in accelerating technologies and operational knowledge. To overcome climate challenges and accelerate the green revolution globally, cooperation between China and the world is crucial. 2024 Study Tour to Nansha

In order to learn more about the latest development and opportunities of Nansha, the Foundation organized a study tour to Nansha on 15 January 2024. Led by the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan, the group met and exchanged views with the local government officials as well as representatives of enterprises and school sponsoring body. 2023 Beijing Delegation

The Foundation successfully completed its visit to Beijing from 6 – 8 November 2023, after the pandemic. Led by the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan, 16 delegates met with senior Central Government officials, experts and scholars to learn more about the national policies towards Hong Kong as well as to share the Foundation’s ongoing works. Before and after the handover, the Foundation as a NGO composed of business leaders spares no effort to share the real situations of Hong Kong and mainland China with the international community and foster communications with various sectors. Besides overseas visits, the Foundation also invites and receives officials, think tanks and journalists from abroad, telling positive stories of Hong Kong and mainland China. To cultivate and strengthen our younger generation’s understanding on the national development and diplomacy, the Foundation together with the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR and the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government co-organize the Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest with for more than 15 years. In partnership with the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Shanghai Committee and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the Foundation co-organizes the Shanghai-Hong Kong Collaboration Forum annually to facilitate in-depth discussion on strategic coordination and collaboration of the two places. On 6 November 2023, the delegation was honored to meet with Mr. Zhou Ji, Executive Deputy Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council who in charge of day-to-day operations. At the meeting, the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan, Trustee Mr. David Chiu, Corporate Sponsor Mr. Andrew Yao, and Council Members Mr. Dario Pong and Mr. John Lee reported the Foundation’s core activities, especially the insights and experiences gained from various overseas visits to the US, Europe and the Middle East regions. Views on the integration between Hong Kong and mainland China, strengthening collaborations with ASEAN and enhancing the international financial center’s status were shared too. Meeting with Mr. Zhou Ji, Executive Deputy Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council who in charge of day-to-day operations On the same day, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Nong Rong received the delegation. Mr. Nong said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs actively supports people from all walks of life in Hong Kong in expanding exchanges and cooperation with other countries and regions, and helps Hong Kong tell the success stories of “One Country, Two Systems”. Mr. Ronnie Chan said the Foundation is willing to give full play to the advantages of people-to-people diplomacy and make greater contributions to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. 2023 Delegation to the Middle East & Europe

From 6 to 16 May 2023, the Foundation organized its first delegation to Saudi Arabia, France and Germany, visiting Riyadh, Jeddah, Paris and Berlin respectively.
