Industrial Development and Hong Kong Commodity Market Seminar

Jointly organized by the China Development Institute (“CDI”) and the Better Hong Kong Foundation, the Industrial Development and Hong Kong Commodity Market Seminar was successfully held in Shenzhen on 7 March 2025. Over 50 prominent experts and representatives from government departments, business and financial sectors, and academia across Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jiangmen, and Xinjiang attended the event. The discussions focused on key topics, including the opportunities and challenges in developing Hong Kong’s commodity market, and how to strengthen and synergize the development between industries and the market.

Guo Wanda, Executive Vice President of CDI, and Karen Tang, Executive Director of the Foundation, delivered opening remarks on behalf of the organizers. The Foundation’s Corporate Sponsor Dario Pong, Council Members Clara Chan, Zhong Xiaofeng and Catherine Leung also attended the seminar and actively participated in panel discussions. Invited by the Foundation, Ba Shusong, Managing Director and Chief China Economist at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd delivered the keynote speech. Clara Man, Deputy Director of Department of Hong Kong, Macao, and Regional Development at CDI, presented the key findings of the research report.

During the interactive discussion session, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and shared valuable insights and suggestions for the development of Hong Kong’s commodity market. The seminar highlighted a shared aspiration among attendees to deepen collaboration in the field of commodity trading, explore its strategic value, and create new development opportunities for Hong Kong, the nation, and related industries.
