The Foundation, together with the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) and Shanghai Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), organized the forum on “China’s Reform and Opening Up: Role and Function of Shanghai and Hong Kong in a New Era” on 15 November 2019 in Shanghai. It was the 15th annual forum that was jointly organized by the three organizations. The forum was supported by Shanghai International Economic Exchange Foundation, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai of the HKSAR Government and Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies.

The Chairman of the Shanghai CPPCC Mr. Dong Yunhu, President of the SASS Dr. Zhang Daogen together with the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan officiated at the opening ceremony. Speakers of the Keynote Session included Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of CPPCC and former Chief Executive of HKSAR; Mr. Xu Kunlin, Vice Mayor of Shanghai; Mr. Xu Ze, President of Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies; Miss Victoria Tang, Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs, Shanghai; and Mr. Qu Qiuping, General Manager of Haitong Securities Co Ltd. More than 350 experts, scholars, government officials and entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and the Mainland attended morning session of the forum.

In the afternoon, three closed-door and small group discussion sessions were held, allowing in-depth exchange of ideas between Shanghai and Hong Kong experts on three important fields, namely maritime and aviation, financial services and properties development.
