The 6 winning teams of the 8th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest started their study tour by visiting Guizhou on 1 August 2014. The Foundation’s Council Member Dr. Roy Chung and Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang also joined the study tour. During their stay in Guizhou, the group visited Bonan Senior Middle School in Kaili City, which over 70% of students is ethnic groups including Hmong, Gaeml, Tujia, etc. An exchange session with local students was arranged. The group also visited a number of famous spots including Thousand Miao Villages, Museum of Miao Culture, Huangguoshu Waterfall, Hall of Confucius Studies, etc.

Visit to Bonan Senior Middle School
Later, the group headed to Beijing, the final stop of their journey. On 6 August 2014, the group visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and was honored to be received by Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui. Mr. Zhang briefed students the principles of the nation’s foreign policies. Ms. Hua Chunying, Spokesperson and Deputy Director-General of the Information Department met with the students at the Blue Hall where press conferences are held and introduced the spokesperson system of the MFA to them. Mr. Ren Yisheng from the Department of International Organizations and Conferences talked about the importance and functions of various international organizations and the development of China’s multi-lateral diplomacy. Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs briefed students on the current international environment, the general principles of China’s foreign policies as well as Hong Kong-related diplomatic works. During their stay in Beijing, the group also visited Capital Museum, the Great Wall, etc. On the last night of the study tour, students shared with each other on the experiences and thoughts gained during the trip at the sharing session.

To thank for the support and assistance of the teachers, staffs of the organizers as well as the secretariat during the study tour, the Foundation’s Council Member Dr. Roy Chung hosted a dinner gathering after returned to Hong Kong.
