The Foundation completed its annual delegation visit to the United States from 9 to 12 July 2018. The main purpose of the delegation was to foster a better understanding of the political, economic and social developments in both the United States and Hong Kong.
This year’s delegation was led by the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan, Chairman of Hang Lung Properties Ltd. Delegates included Council Members Ms. Winnie Ng, Director of The Kowloon Motor Bus Co Ltd and Mr. John Lee, Vice Chairman and Co-Head of Greater China, Asia Corporate Client Solutions of UBS AG Corporate Client Solutions; Corporate Sponsor’s representative Mr. Song Teng, CEO of Haitong International Securities (USA) Inc; Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang; and invited guests Ms. Tammy Tam, Editor-in-Chief of the South China Morning Post and Mr. Fred Teng, President of AmericaChina Public Affairs Institute.
The delegation visited the Executive Branch (U.S. Department of Commerce); member of the Legislative Branch (Senator Mitch McConnell); think tanks (The Brookings Institution and the Heritage Foundation); NGOs (China General Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S.-Asia Institute); a financial institution (New York Stock Exchange); and media (Bloomberg, The Economist and Bloomberg). The delegation also visited the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Washington DC.
The delegation was honored that the Embassy of the PRC in the U.S. (Ambassador Cui Tiankai) and the Consulate General of the PRC in New York (Acting Consul General Zhao Yumin) hosted luncheon and dinner to welcome the delegation respectively. The Permanent Mission of the PRC to the UN (Ambassador Ma Chaoxu) also met with the delegation.
