From July 20 to 29, 2025, the winning teams of the 18th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest embarked on a study tour to Beijing and Yunnan Province.
In Beijing, the students first visited the Yizhuang High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Area and the Xiaomi Automobile Factory, gaining firsthand knowledge of China’s latest developments in smart vehicles and autonomous driving technology. The following day, the delegation toured the Palace Museum before heading to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they were specially arranged to attend a regular press conference. After the session, Spokesperson Lin Jian warmly engaged with the students, sharing his experiences and insights from diplomatic work. In addition, young diplomats joined a discussion session, introducing their responsibilities and challenges, which gave the students a deeper understanding of diplomatic practices.

Visit to the Palace Museum
Other highlights in Beijing included visits to the Museum of the Communist Party of China, Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, and the Memorial Hall of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, as well as enjoying a cultural performance at Lao She Teahouse. These activities allowed the students to appreciate China’s rich historical and cultural heritage, while also recognizing the nation’s active progress in modernization and international interaction.

The study tour then continued in Yunnan Province, covering Kunming, Malipo, and Qiubei. The delegation visited natural wonders such as the Stone Forest and Puzhehei, and climbed Qinglong Mountain to enjoy its magnificent scenery. In Malipo, the students paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Cemetery, explored the Rural Revitalization Park to learn about local agricultural development, and experienced traditional batik craftsmanship. They also visited Tianbao Port to observe border infrastructure. At Malipo No.1 Primary School, the students interacted with local pupils. A donation ceremony was organized by the school, during which the Foundation representative participated and contributed resources to support the improvement and upgrading of school facilities, demonstrating care and support for the community.

Visit to Tianbao Port at the China–Vietnam border
In Kunming, the itinerary included visits to Yunnan Baiyao Group, the Dounan Flower Market, Yunnan Provincial Museum, and Yunnan Ethnic Village, along with attending the performance Dynamic Yunnan. These experiences offered valuable insights into Yunnan’s cultural diversity and industrial development. On the final day, the delegation visited the former site of the National Southwest Associated University, reflecting on the historical significance of education during the wartime period, which marked a meaningful conclusion to the study tour.

Through this year’s contest and study tour, we hope that young people and the wider public in Hong Kong will deepen their understanding of China’s development and cultivate a broader vision within the context of global diplomacy.
