The Foundation felt that this Fortune CEO roundtable would help to project an image of Hong Kong as a healthy, thriving and sound economy, while countering a negative perception of Hong Kong that developed internationally after the publication of a cover story in Fortune magazine in 1995 entitled “The Death of Hong Kong”. The Fortune cover story during the 1998 CEO Forum was called “Putting Fire into Hong Kong”. More significantly, major international media organizations hosted similar business events with the Foundation, which saw many opinion leaders and corporate leaders endorsing Hong Kong as being one of the world’s best cities for business.
