The 6 winning teams of the 7th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest with over 40 members started their study tour by visiting Harbin on 9 August 2013. The Foundation’s Council Member Dr. Roy Chung and Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang also joined the study tour. During their stay in Harbin, the group visited a number of famous spots including Jin Dynasty Shangjing History Museum, Sun Island, Central Street, Volga Manor, etc. They were all impressed most by the visit to the Exhibition Hall of Crime Evidence of Japanese Germ Factory in Harbin and the exchange with students from Harbin No 3 High School.

On 12 August 2013, the group headed to Beijing. The highlight of the study tour was the visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and met with Mr. Hong Lei, Spokesman and Deputy Director-General of the Information Department at the Blue Hall where press conferences were held. The group was also gratified to learn more about the roles and duties of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs as well as Department of Consular Affairs from their deputy heads. During their stay in Beijing, the group also visited the National Museum, Great Wall, Daoyutai State Guesthouse, International Garden Expo, Lugou Bridge, Museum of the War of Chinese People’s Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, etc.

After the study tour, students should be able to have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China’s foreign affairs, national conditions as well as the history, development and culture of Beijing and Harbin. On 23 August 2013, a sharing session was held at the Commissioner’s Office where students gave presentations on their thoughts and experiences gained during the study tour. The Foundation’s Council Member Dr. Roy Chung also attended.
