7th HK Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest – Final

Jointly organized by the Better Hong Kong Foundation, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in the HKSAR and the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government, the Final of the 7th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest was successfully held on 6 July 2013. The contest aims to raise students’ interest in international affairs and knowledge of the nation’s foreign policy. The Foundation’s Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang was one of the officiating guests of the Final while Council Members Mr. Thomas Woo, Mr. Leung Wai-fung, Mr. Samson Chan and Mr. Frankie Yeung attended the event.

Nearly 400 audiences consisting of students and teachers from around 50 primary and secondary schools enjoyed the Final and were amazed by the excellent performances of the finalists. After the fierce competition, the championship went to Sing Yin Secondary School which scored 270 totally. Queen’s College and Po Leung Kuk Centenary Li Shiu Chung Memorial College won the Silver awards while Shatin Pui Ying College, CNEC Christian College and Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School won the Bronze awards respectively. Invited by the Foundation, Chairman of Hang Seng Bank Ltd Dr. Raymond Chi’en was one of the judges for the Final and other judges including Deputy Commissioner Hong Xiaoyong, Vice President of China Foreign Affairs University Mr. Zheng Qirong and Vice President of China Institute of International Studies Mr. Guo Xiangang.

Commissioner Song Zhe, Chief Secretary for Administration Mrs. Carrie Lam, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of Central People’s Government in the HKSAR Mr. Wang Zhimin, Secretary for Education Mr. Eddie Ng, the Foundation’s Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang, Deputy Director-General of the Information Department of the MFA Mr. Hong Lei, Counselor of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of MFA Ms. Zhou Saixing and representatives of sponsors presented various awards to winners of the secondary and primary school categories as well as design competitions of T-shirt and desktop logo.

To celebrate the success of the Contest and express our gratitude to our partnering organizations, the Foundation hosted a celebration dinner after the Final. Hosted by the Foundation’s Council Member Dr. Roy Chung, our Trustee Dr. Sumet Jiaravanon’s representative Ms. Li Xuhua; Council Members Mr. Thomas Woo, Mr. Joseph Yu, Mr. Leung Wai-fung and Mr. Frankie Yeung; and Executive Director Ms. Karen Tang also joined the dinner.

A study tour to Beijing and Harbin will be organized for the students, teachers and principals of the winning teams in early August.
