Deepest Mourning for Mr. Tung Chee-hwa

Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Vice Chairman of the 10th to 13th National Committees of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), passed away on 8 September 2026 at the age of 89. All members of the Better Hong Kong Foundation (“the Foundation”) express our profound grief and heartfelt condolences, extending our deepest sympathies to Mr. Tung’s family.

With deep love for our country and Hong Kong, Mr. Tung devoted his life to serving the nation and the city. As the first Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Mr. Tung pioneered the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, leading Hong Kong through many challenges and laying a solid foundation for the city’s long-term prosperity and stability with selfless dedication.

Mr. Tung harbored long-standing care and strong support for the establishment and development of the Foundation. Over the years, he frequently graced the Foundation’s activities with his presence, generously engaging with our members, sharing his wise insights, setting directions for our growth, and providing invaluable guidance. His vision, wisdom, and noble character command our deepest respect and will remain forever in our hearts.

The Foundation will remain steadfast in its mission and fulfill its commitment, upholding our original purpose of “building a better tomorrow for Hong Kong”. Bearing Mr. Tung’s teachings firmly in mind, we will continue to contribute our utmost to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong as well as the development of our nation.

Mr. Tung Chee-hwa’s spirit will endure forever and remain deep in our hearts.
